End of Interning

I have done a lot of editing over the past few weeks in order to complete the shows I have. One of these weeks was CAST week in which I filmed 3 town events. I also filmed RAVEs 30th Anniversary Awards Ceremony the week prior to CAST week.

I have been really busy with a lot of work to do over these weeks. I sent a couple of businesses I filmed the final products of their segments and I am getting good feedback from them.

I learned how to program shows for the channel and how to solder cables together.

I really enjoyed interning at the Raynham Channel and I am very glad I got the opportunity!

What Else Have I Been Doing?

I shot the grand opening of the McDonalds in Raynham. I went to Olson's Greenhouse and shot a segment with them. It was interesting learning about the greenhouses. I also shot a segment with Spark BRS using Tiamekia, a woman who came to the casting call I had, as a host.

I did a lot more editing over this time as well. I edited together the Southeast Orthodontics segment, Harry's La Casa Mia, and almost finished the Surly Johnson's segment.

New Post

I have been doing a lot since the last time I posted. I have been shooting more shows and doing more editing. I shot segments at McDonalds and MD Cabinetry.

I finished editing Salon Flawless and Chili Head (which turned out to be a single 25 minute episode). The "Let's Eat" show will have one place per show.

I also want to a local access conference in New Bedford and got to meet some people there. On the side, I made a video with my boss for CMF and we won Best Drama for FSU.

Casting Call

I had a casting call for my show today. I found some people that I think will work well in the show. I did a little more editing also.

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

Edit Day

I edited the Polar sequence more today. I edited together a rough cut of the Coletti's segment and worked on the Art's segment. I got ready for tomorrow's casting call by printing out the resumes of the people coming.

Monday, February 21, 2011

Late Post

On Friday, I went to Coletti's Market and Raynham Wine and Liquors to do shoots. I started off the day at Coletti's market. I filmed Mike, the owner, and got footage of subs being made. I went to Raynham Wine and Liquors later in the day and filmed a wine tasting.

I had no work today because of President’s Day.

Two More Places

I visited Art's Bakery today and shot an interview with Art. I also toured the back and saw a little of the pastry process.

I also visited Pleasure in Pain and interviewed the owners about the shop. I shot around the store afterwards.

1st Episode!

Today, I completed the first episode of "Business as Usual" and I believe it is ready to air. I also wrote up questions for Pleasure in Pain and Art's Bakery.

I called more places today and was able to set up a day with a salon. I uploaded all the music I got in the mail to my computer. I also worked on an ad to put in the paper to get businesses to call us so we can profile them.

Fri/Mon/Tue

These days mostly consisted of a lot of editing of the footage I have. The first episode of "Business as Usual" should be done very soon. I also worked a lot on editing the Polar footage.

I made a lot of phone calls over these days and set up a lot more shoots. I am currently doing two places on Thursday and two places on Friday. I also will have a casting call for my show next Wednesday. I have been getting a lot of emails about it.

I've been doing a lot of work over these days trying to organize, edit, and set up more shoots.

Today, I shot more footage at Hilltop with Alicia as a host during the afternoon. I also shot the revealing of the podiums at Town Hall to go in the podium sequence.

Thursday, February 10, 2011

Blue Hills Brewery

I visited Blue Hills Brewery today. I got to meet everyone there and interview Andris, the Brew master. Alley came today to be the host of the show. We shot the interview segment in front of a bar area. We also went into the room where the brewing happens and Andris explained the process the beer went through. I got a lot of footage to work with. We shot more about the separate beers after the tour. Alley and I finally shot the intro part outside of the place. It was a good day of shooting.

Tue/Wed (Polar Visit)

Tue: I came in and did more editing today. We then got all the equipment ready and drove to Worcester to go to the Polar Factory. I drove separately from Mike and met up with him and Alley, the host for this segment, there.

We met up with Chris Crowley and set up everything to film the interview. We used two cameras on this shoot. After the interview, we went into the factory and filmed Alley interviewing Chris throughout the place. Mike was filming mainly their interview and I was trying to get B-roll of the place. I got lost twice and the second time Mike had to come find me. We got over an hour’s worth of footage on the factory floor for each camera. It was a fun shoot and interesting to see the different beverages being made. I shot Alley outside giving an introduction last.

Wed: I uploaded all the footage we shot yesterday. This took a long time to upload. I began editing and organizing the footage we shot.

I wrote up questions for Blue Hill Brewery for tomorrow. I looked at some people that responded to Mike's craigslist ad about finding music. I think we'll have some nice instrumental music to use.

Business as Usual

I did a lot more editing today and I am close to finishing the first episode of the show. Mike found a host for tomorrow’s shoot. I also booked two more interviews. I am going to Blue Hill Brewery and a place that makes kayaks.

Super Bowl Sunday Replies

I replied to everyone that showed interest in being in The Upside of Disappointment(TUOD). I sent out scripts to people and now I need to set up a casting call time.

Editing

I worked all day today editing together the first episode of "Business as Usual". I got a lot of work done and I am happy with what I have completed. It takes awhile to put together a half hour long show. I had already laid out most of the Rick's stuff, but the Novella stuff needed a lot of work. I also made all the text cards for all the questions.

Also today, we continued looking for a host on Tuesday and still don't have one confirmed.

JB Interview

Today, I finally did the interview with Julie. We did the interview in the studio and she set up a table with designs on it. She brought two people with her to help and be in the segment. The shooting went pretty well and I got some good footage. She gave me a flash drive with a bunch of photographs of weddings she did so I could use them when editing.

I worked a lot in editing today. I think I finally have what will go between questions. I am going to use this white lettering on a black back drop. The footage I shot with my friend isn't going to be used in it, but I'm glad I finally know how I want it to look.

Bad Weather Again...

I didn't have to go in today because of the weather. I am getting lots of responses back for "The Upside of Disappointment" ad that I put up. I hope to have a casting session sometime in the next few weeks.

Mon/Tue

I meant to post something yesterday, but I never got around to it. Yesterday, I went to the Town Hall in Raynham to help move the podiums, but they were already moved when I got there. I went back to the station and did a lot of editing on Business as Usual. I added in the segments I shot with my friend and worked with the clips I already had. I did a lot of clip labeling.

I made more phone calls. I have an interview at Polar Beverages next Tuesday at 2 PM. I also may have something in a month working with The Jockey Club.

Today, the snow resulted in another cancellation. I did however get my confirmation for Newenglandfilms.com so I posted up a casting call for a show I want to make. At this point, I have 4 people to already respond. I hope to get more and have a casting call.

Weekend Host

This weekend I went up to Westfield and filmed my friend for the host of "Business as Usual". I shot him on Friday and Saturday. I got a lot of footage that I am going to try to use.

Taffy!!!

I went into work today and talked with Mike more about what the Chanel needed. I did some organizing of the lights and put them in bags. I worked on more editing with all the footage I have.

I went to Hill Top Candy and interviewed Chase, the owner. I also got to see the process of how the candy was made. I got a lot of footage of how the taffy is made. I really enjoyed shooting it and seeing all the different machines. They make taffy the old fashion way and it was cool seeing it get all stretched out.

I also got two free samples. The taffy I was filming was a new flavor. It was a fusion of raspberry and vanilla. It tasted really good and I recommend it.

After the shoot, I went back to the Channel and Log and Transferred everything. I also worked on my character for the host of the show. His name is Lance Jamison and he is a former petty thief. I plan on trying to shoot some stuff this weekend.

Thursday, January 27, 2011

Oh Snow!

The snow stopped the interview with Julie today. I didn't go into work because of the snow. School was canceled in the middle school. I did get the questions I wanted to ask her done in the morning.

I made some phone calls today. I hope to do a profile with Stoneforge Tavern and I was able to talk to the owner of The Jockey Club. I e-mailed the owner of Stoneforge Tavern.

I am still in search for a host for "Mass Produced" and looked at a list of people that responded to the Craigslist ad. I didn't think anyone fit the part.

(Last Night)
After I posted my post last night I started writing the character I wanted to host "Business as Usual".

Editing and Ideas

I went in and began working on organizing the Novella footage I got yesterday. I cut it up into many clips and bins so it would be easier to find. I have all the footage I want from Rick's and Novella now so I can make a full episode of "Business as Usual'.

I attempted to shoot some intro stuff for the show with me being the host, but I didn't really like how it came out. I need to find a host for the show. I did record a little theme song that I thought was pretty funny so I think I'll keep that.

Mike and I did a lot of talking about the show and different ideas about what to do with it. The main thing is getting a host for it. I also need a host for "Mass Produced". I did a lot of thinking about the show throughout the day and I did more editing of the footage for it.

Two Interviews

It was a little snowy this morning, but I made it to work. I came in and had to gather the stuff I needed for the Eclectic Karate interview. I took one of the new lights with me to use. I drove to the Karate School.

I set up the camera and light and shot my interview with Scott. I also followed Scott around the room filming him while he explained various things. I then shot a bunch of b-roll shots of the things such as the belts and punching bags. It was a successful shoot and I got a bunch of footage. I'm going to go back some Saturday and film a class going on.

I went back to the Channel and uploaded the footage. I did a lot of organizing of the footage throughout the day. I also made more phone calls which were mostly unsuccessful, but I did set up a time for a wine tasting at Raynham Wine and Liquors.

Mike and I talked about the shows I am trying to make and we want to find a host for “Mass Produced” by Friday. We want this host for the Hill Top Candy Shoot.

I had another interview later in the day with Janet. She runs Novella Jewelry from her house and I want over there to talk about it. I brought all the equipment I needed and brought a new light to this shoot as well. I interviewed her in her living room and then went upstairs to her work area and she talked more about her jewelry. I got a lot of footage from her.

I drove back to the Channel and dropped off the stuff and locked up.

More Phone Calls and Pre-Production

I went in today and was given a key to get into the place. This was followed by some phone calls. I called up someone who did marketing for Home Food Markets and left info about what I wanted to do. I called Hill Top Candy again and set up another shoot for Friday. I also left another message with Polar Beverages.

I am doing an interview with Novella Jewelry tomorrow in the afternoon. Janet Conrad is the owner of this company and makes Jewelry in her house in Raynham. I also still have my interview with Scott at 10 AM tomorrow.

I pre-planned the questions for Novella and did more pre-production for "Business as Usual". I also worked on developing a storyboard for a show I want to eventually make called "The Upside of Disappointment".

Mike bought a Keurig coffee maker for the channel and did a lot of cleaning today. We set up the printer today which took a little longer than expected...

Snow... again

I had another snow day today. The Hill-Top Candy shoot was canceled. I have to call them again on Monday to reschedule.

I made a few phone calls today. I called the Milk Bottle Restaurant and the owner wasn't there again. I called Awards Plus, a place that makes medals and plaques, and left a message there. I did get in contact with Raynham Wine and Liquors and they would like to do a shoot with me. They do wine tastings there and I'm going to be able to shoot a segment about that with them. I have to call them again on Tuesday to set something up.

Podium Editing and Rescheduling

I went in today and worked on editing together a piece about the podium being built at the High School. Mike had shot some stuff months ago that I used in the editing. I worked on this a bunch today.

I e-mailed Finagle-a-Bagel the info that was needed in order to set something up with them. We got a call from All Occasions by JB and rescheduled for another day next week for an interview. Scott from Eclectic Karate canceled today, but we rescheduled for next Tuesday.

We took the camera that stays at Rick's yesterday and Rick wanted it back for tonight. I drove over to Rick's and dropped off the camera and set it up for him.

I finished putting together a short sequence for the podium segment. I also helped Mike a little with cleaning up the room and organizing the equipment we have.

Special Delivery

I showed up to the channel with an idea for “Business as Usual”. It involves a door and a sign that says Business as Usual on it. I also want this to be a logo that shows up on the bottom right of the show. I want the door logo on the bottom right to open and have titles come out when needed. I worked on this for a little.

I wrote more plans and questions for future shoots. I wrote out the questions and planning for the Eclectic Karate interview tomorrow. I also wrote down plans and questions for the Hill-Top Candy shoot on Friday.

I made more phone calls in the morning. I am still working on getting St. Pierre Manufacturing, but I think after I give them another call next week they will be set for a shoot date. I gave calls to new places today including Finagle-a-Bagel and Home Foods Markets. There are no shoots planned for either yet.

Mike and I went to Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School to shoot a few things. Students in a carpentry class have been making two podiums and one of them is going to The Raynham Channel. Mike went in awhile ago in the earlier stages of production and filmed them. Now, the students have finished making the podiums and we went in to film the final products and interview them on how they made them.

We interviewed two students in the carpentry class. We also recorded the kids putting nameplates onto the podiums. After we got the shots of the podiums we needed, we went to the CAD room to see the emblem that was being made that would also go onto the podium. In the CAD room, an emblem was being made by lasers in a machine. We interviewed a student about the process and saw a finished product.

We went back to the Channel and I uploaded all the footage we got. I then organized all the clips and put them in different bins.

Around the time I finished organizing, a shipment of things that Mike ordered came in. This included five new lights, a wireless printer, a phone, a paper shredder, a cork board, and additional light bulbs for the lights. We opened everything up and I assembled together some lights to test them. It turns out that three of the ten extra bulbs that were ordered did not work.

Pat Riley, a department head of the board of selectman in Raynham amongst other things (Need to check exact job definition), runs a show called "Inside Scoop" in the studio. She came in with her guests that night and we shot a show with her. I was able to use the studio equipment and switch between the three cameras that were set up.

It was a longer day today, but a good amount got accomplished.

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

Bad Weather

It was snowing when I woke up this morning and it took longer than usually to get to Raynham. The roads were in bad conditions. The snow went away as I went further down the highway, but it turned into sleet. Mike told me that he got into an accident and hit a guard rail. He is alright though and his car didn't take that much damage.

The Polar interview got canceled due to the weather. This will have to be rescheduled. The All Occasions by JB interview for tomorrow got canceled also. Julie has laryngitis. I did however get in contact with Hilltop Candy and set up something for Friday. I will be able to interview the owner and film how the candy is made. I made other phone calls this morning, but they were unsuccessful.

Mike and I worked together to figure what new equipment we could use for the channel. Mike ordered a lot of things that we needed today. He ordered lights, some mini-DVI to video adapters, and a phone.

I did a lot more editing for the Rick's segment today. I worked a lot with coming up with the graphics for the various titles in the segment. I am still trying to find the look for the show and spent a lot of time testing different graphics. The name I have for the show right now is "Business as Usual". I need to find the look for the show and then stay consistent.

1st Day of Post Every Day (Jan 17)

I plan on posting a post every day I intern. This will be the first official one (The last one was a recap of an entire week). Although I did not go in today, I'm still going to count it. Since The Raynham Channel is in a middle school, it isn't open on days the school gets off. It is MLK day so it is closed.

I did get some work done today. I wrote out the questions and planning for the Polar shoot tomorrow. I also created this blog today.

(The next info I am giving doesn't really fit the title of this post, but I am putting it here.)
Yesterday, I organized myself a little more for the upcoming week and put more info in my planner. Mike bought me a planner and a calendar on Friday. These items are very helpful. We also plan on getting a wireless printer for the Channel. Mike is trying to make a lot of renovations in the rooms we have for the Channel and is slowly turning it around. Right now, it is a little messy, but it will take some time.

1st Week Interning

This is my summary of the 1st week of interning.

Mon (Jan 10): This is my first day of work. I wake up ready to go to intern in the morning. I learn it will take me somewhere between 35-40 minutes to get to The Raynham Channel from my house. I show up to the Channel and ring the bell to let me in. (The Raynham Channel is built inside the Raynham Middle School, but has its own side entrance.) Mike, the Executive Director of the Channel, lets me in. He is my supervisor for this intern experience.

We start off the day talking about what we are going to do and our plans for this internship. In our first meeting, my interview to become an intern, we had talked about new shows we would like to make and now it is time to go through with these ideas. Mike tells me he has already called up a few places to start a show in which we profile businesses in Raynham. Originally, we wanted to do a show that is about local restaurants, but the new idea is to expand to all businesses.

A place called Rick's Music World agreed to have a segment with us. I write down questions I would like to ask Rick, the owner. I do the best I can, without seeing the place, making a plan for how I would like the segment to be.

That day, I follow Mike down to Rick's to start shooting. Rick isn't there today for interviewing, but I was able to shoot around the store. Mike leaves and I begin shooting. I gather many different shots throughout the store trying to get as much b-roll as I can to fill a 15-minute slot for a 30min show. I was also allowed to film a music lesson that was going on which is very helpful for the segment.

After the shoot, I drive back to the Channel with the footage. I upload it and begin naming all my clips. I pull out various clips that I like and make a short sequence of the clips. I feel ready to interview Rick and put together a strong sequence for the segment.

Tue (Jan 11): I showed up today and we talked more about plans for upcoming events. Mike has been calling a lot of places in order for us to interview them and such. I make some more plans for upcoming events. We plan on doing a segment about the Raynham Flea Market. I put together the plans and the questions I want to ask.

I go back to Rick's today to shoot the interview. Rick is a nice guy and gives me a free Coke while he finishes up some things he has to do. While he finishes these things, I set up the camera in a back room for the interview.

Rick comes up and we dress up the area he'll be sitting in with two guitars. He holds one and one is on the ground. I get Rick mic'd up and we do the interview. The interview goes smoothly and I feel I've gotten the footage that is needed.

Back at the Channel, I upload all the clips I got and organize everything to make a segment. I plan the order of the questions and the story that I want to tell. I work for awhile editing as much as I can before I go.

Wed (Jan 12): There is a big snow storm and work is canceled for today. I do create a YouTube site for the Channel http://www.youtube.com/user/RaynhamChannel?feature=mhum . It's currently empty, but it will eventually have videos uploaded onto it.

Thur (Jan 13): This is another snow day.

Fri (Jan 14): I make a lot of phone calls at work today. Mike gives me all the info he's gotten and gives me the responsibility to make calls. We talk about a new show that Mike calls "Mass Produced". In this show I will visit companies in Massachusetts that produce things.

I called up a lot of places today and got to leave a lot of messages. I did get in contact with Polar Beverages and we agreed to have an interview and shoot the factory on Tuesday (Jan 18). The seemed like really nice people over the phone. I was able to speak to Chris Crowley, Executive VP of Polar Beverages, in order to set up the shoot. I talked to the people at St. Pierre Manufacturing also and I am hopeful we can set something up with them.

I was able to speak with the makers of Fluff, but I was told they don't do interviews or have any cameras in the factory.

I set up other meetings for the week of Jan 17- Jan 21 during this calling session. On Wed (Jan 19), Julie Barnes from All Occasions by JB will be coming in to shoot a segment. She is a wedding event planner. On Thur (Jan 20), I will be going to Eclectic Karate to interview Scott about the Karate School.

For the rest of the day I edited together the Rick's segment. I spent a lot of time editing, but at the end of the day I think I have a pretty good cut. It came out to be a little less than 13minutes which works well for a half hour show about two businesses. This show is still unnamed, but is separate from Mass Produced. This is just about local businesses.

It was a successful day and a lot was accomplished.
